10 Facebook Credits = 1 dollar of virtual goodness & poor user messaging

So today I noticed this nifty message in Facebook after I added the NetworkedBlogs app:

I vaguely remember reading an article about Facebook virtual goods/currency so my curiosity was now peaked that I had been awarded 10 free credits (I'm a sucker for free, it's true). So, I select the Facebook Credits link for more info and this is what I get:

Ok, not to get all double rainbow guy on y'all but WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!? In no way does this explain what Facebook Credits are, how to use them, or how to get them. First off, I didn't download a game. Secondly, what is this about my financial info? Lastly, who said anything about buying them? If you select 'Get Credits', you view a purchase screen.

If you're looking for an answer don't use FB search - it won't help. I found the official FB credit page here through google. And I have to tell you folks after all this - I still don't know how or what I can spend my free Facebook credits on. I'm sure if I want to spend the next hour or two figuring it out I could but that kinda loses the fun of it.
